PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Here’s a scary thought: Adam Scott thinks he’s striking the ball better this week than he did at Augusta.
At TPC Sawgrass he has hit at least 15 greens both rounds. He has missed only five fairways all week.
“I feel like I’m kind of wearing the course down a little bit,” he said Friday.
But for the week, Scott has made only two putts longer than 9 feet and ranks 93rd in putting.
“I’m trying to warm the putter up,” he said. “There were signs of it.”
The 2004 Players champion bogeyed the last after failing to get up-and-down from short and right of the green. It was one of just two blemishes on a difficult afternoon for scoring, and after a 4-under 68 Scott is four shots behind leader Sergio Garcia heading into the weekend.
“I’ll have to curb those errors over the weekend to have a chance,” he said, “but it’s playing tough. The greens are getting pretty quick. You’re going to have to be a little cautious out there.”
