Scott contending despite mediocre 70

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Adam Scott was not as sharp as he wanted to be on Friday, but played well enough in the second round of The Players Championship to get into contention for a second title at TPC Sawgrass.

'I didn't have the best warm-up and I didn't hit my best shots out on the golf course, but managed to get it around,' he said. 'I'm playing fairly good, so my scratchy stuff was good enough today.'

Scott, the winner here in 2004, shot 70 at the Stadium Course to get to 6 under at the midpoint of the tournament.

The Aussie has played a sporadic schedule in 2012. Coming off of surgery in December to remove his tonsils, Scott is making just his fifth PGA Tour start of the year. He skipped both events in Hawaii and didn't play in the Valero Texas Open.

The lack of reps is not a problem in Scott's eyes.

'I've played hundreds of golf tournaments,' he said, 'and, hopefully, I'm going to play hundreds more. So it's all going to be there. I'm doing what I feel is the best I can do to prepare myself every time I play.'

Vying to become the first player to win this event in March and May, Scott doesn't care where this event falls on the calendar.

'I'd be happy if it was in December,' he said. 'Just happy to be here.'
