That’s one reason why, when Rose texted a congratulatory message to his friend after winning the Masters, Scott responded with a very personal message of his own.
“This is your time, this is our time, to win these tournaments,” Scott’s text to Rose stated back in April.
His words would be prescient, as Rose claimed the U.S. Open two months later, in part crediting his friend for the inspiration.
“I wrote that to him not just because he’s put in 10 years work and everything, but you can see players out here, especially guys that you’re close to and that you know well, when their games are really developing, and you know when they’re putting a lot of hard work in, and I’ve definitely seen that in Justin’s game,” Scott explained on Wednesday. “I truly believed that comment was aimed at him and probably a few other guys around our age as well, but certainly I only wrote it to him.
“If he didn’t believe it already, I was hoping that he would see it through me winning and then me saying that to him for sure, because he’s that good, obviously.”
