Scott recalls first time he played API as 20-year-old

ORLANDO, Fla. – Adam Scott will never forget his first visit to Bay Hill for what was to become the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

“[Palmer] gave me an invite to play here when I was 20 years old, I believe,” he said Wednesday. “I walked off the first green and he was sitting in the cart behind the green greeting some of the players. And he came over to me and he said, ‘Adam, it's great to have you here.’ And I couldn't even believe he knew who I was.”

Scott will compete in this week’s edition of the event for the first time since 2009, when he missed the cut.

The reigning Masters champion sounded excited about honoring a fellow past champion at this week’s tournament.

“His level of involvement in the game, and this was 10 years ago or more, to now, is incredible and he's in touch with it and he's relevant and he's been a great leader for professional golf.”
