Seeing early red at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Retief Goosen holed his second shot into the first hole for an eagle-2 and the early lead at the Masters.

The early expectations are for low scores to begin the season’s first major thanks to clear, cool skies and virtually no wind. Officials also seem to have set many of the hole locations in more accessible areas.

Just two holes are cut closer than 5 paces from the edge of the green, the 13th and 16th holes. Six players are currently under par.

Officials also are using two of the new hole locations. Since last year the back-left portion of No. 11 and back-right portion of No. 17 have been flattened. Both locations are being used for Round. 1.
