Senior British Open to Sunningdale, then Carnoustie

The Senior Open Championship will be held at Sunningdale in 2015, followed by Carnoustie in ’16, it was announced Monday by the European Tour.

Sunningdale last held the Senior Open in 2009, when Loren Roberts prevailed in a three-way playoff. Bernhard Langer won the 2010 Open at Carnoustie.

This year, the Senior Open heads to Wales for the first time, when Porthcawl Golf Club will host the over-50 set’s fifth major of the year. The tournament dates are July 24-27.

Sunningdale also has hosted the British Masters, European Tour, Seve Trophy, Walker Cup, International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship, and the Women’s British Open.

Carnoustie, meanwhile, has served as the Open host on seven occasions, most recently in 2007.
