Shin up to challenge after surgery

RSS

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Jiyai Shin’s still hurting from the emergency appendectomy surgery two weeks ago, but she returns highly motivated to the LPGA Championship at Locust Hill Country Club.

Shin wants her No. 1 spot back.

“I really got pressure,” Shin said.

Ai Miyazato took the No. 1 spot from Shin this week after winning last week’s Shoprite LPGA Classic. Miyazato ended Shin’s run of seven weeks atop the rankings. Shin took over from retiring Lorena Ochoa.

Shin was preparing to play the LPGA State Farm Classic June 9 when she suffered an appendicitis attack.

“My stomach still hurts a little,” she said Wednesday. “But it’s getting better.”

Locust Hill seems an ideal spot for Shin to return if she’s healthy. She won the Wegmans LPGA here last year.

“I feel like this course is made for me,” Shin said.
