Shin in the hunt after surgery

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Jiyai Shin managed at less than full strength to easily make the cut Friday at the LPGA Championship.

Sixteen days after emergency surgery for an appendicitis, Shin birdied her final hole to shoot 2-under-par 70. She’s tied for 10th at 142, eight shots off the lead. Shin was the No. 1 player in the world until Ai Miyazato took the top spot this week.

“It still hurts a little bit, but it’s much better today than yesterday and I expect it should be even better tomorrow,” Shin said.

Miyazato rallied with a 71 to make the cut. She’s at 147.
