Shin victory threatens Ochoas No 1 standing

The drama heightens for today’s final round at the Tres Marias Championship in Mexico.

Jiyai Shin elevated the stakes with her victory on the Japan LPGA Tour.

Can Lorena Ochoa hold her emotions in check enough to win her farewell appearance as a full-time player. Will she play well enough to hold onto to her No. 1 ranking? Will Shin ascend to No. 1 by nightfall? Can Michelle Wie win her second LPGA event?

All these questions will be answered in the shots played today in Morelia, Mexico.

The stakes ratcheted up over No. 1 with Shin winning the CyberAgent Ladies event on the JLPGA Tour in Chiba on Sunday. Ochoa must finish fourth or better now to hold onto her No. 1 ranking. If she doesn’t, Shin ascends.

Shin’s victory makes for an even more emotionally charged finish for Ochoa, whose dream is to go out with the No. 1 ranking.
