Shivering in Scottsdale

RSS

Punxsutawney Phil may not have seen his shadow on Wednesday but that was of little solace to folks in the Midwest, or the Southwest for that matter.

Wednesday’s pro-am at the Waste Management Phoenix Open was cancelled because of a layer of ice that settled on TPC Scottsdale and the chance of further delays loomed in Thursday’s forecast, which called for lows of 26 degrees and a high of just 49 degrees.

“I've lived here quite a lot, and you get cold mornings. As everyone who's been here, you get cold mornings and you get some frost, but this is a legitimate winter day today,” Geoff Ogilvy said. “There's a reason why people move here from up north down here in winter, and it's not for days like this, so this is kind of unique.”

Good news for the huddled Tour masses, Sunday’s high is forecast to be 73 degrees, but that will be of little comfort for anyone with a morning tee time on Thursday.
