It seems not everything was decided at the Tour Championship. Although Bill Haas claimed the FedEx Cup in dramatic fashion and Luke Donald concluded his PGA Tour season atop the current money list, that hold on the cash crown may be tenuous.
Currently Webb Simpson trails Donald by about $69,000 and he has indicated he may play again before the end of the season. Officials at the McGladrey Classic told GolfChannel.com “there is a pretty good possibility” Simpson could play next week in Georgia, where he likely would need a top-20 finish to pass the Englishman, or he could play the season finale Oct. 20-23 at Disney.
Like the FedEx Cup champion, the money list winner receives a five-year Tour exemption.
Nick Watney also closed on the money title with his runner-up showing last week at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He’s third on the earnings list at $5.29 million, about $546,000 behind Donald.
However, Watney’s manager confirmed to GolfChannel.com on Sunday that his man has no plans to play again in the fall.
