Simpson out of pro-am due to food poisoning

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Webb Simpson was forced to withdraw from the Transitions Championship pro-am Wednesday due to a bout with food poisoning.

Last year’s runner-up to Gary Woodland in a playoff remains hopeful that he will be able to tee it up in the opening round.

Competitors are allowed to pull out of pro-am events and still compete in tournament rounds, as long as there is a medical excuse.

In five starts this year, Simpson has finished no worse than T-38, including a T-3 at the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
