Simpson throws out first pitch at Yankee game

Webb Simpson at the 2012 U.S. Open

Webb Simpson did not make the trip to the British Open because of his wife's baby bump. The U.S. Open champion went to a different bump on Wednesday in New York. Simpson threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium as the home team entertained the Toronto Blue Jays in an afternoon matinee.

As the latest to be crowned major champion, his galleries will be sure to grow, but the New York crowd was bigger than what he typically draws.

"I'm out of my comfort zone," Simpson said, according to Major League Baseball. "So many people, a lot more than a golf tournament. I was pretty nervous."

The game was delayed by 45 minutes due to rain, affording Simpson some extra time to prepare.

Simpson said, "I threw probably 100 balls."
