Singh will try to hold off McIlroy in final group

RSS

CARMEL, Ind. – BMW leader Vijay Singh won his first big professional event at the European Tour’s Volvo Open Championship in 1989.

A month before Rory McIlroy was born.

Veteran savvy meets youth in Saturday’s third-round pairing at the BMW Championship.

Singh, McIlroy and Ryan Moore will make up the final threesome off in the third round at 1:01 p.m. ET.

Singh, 49, has won more PGA Tour events (22) than any player in his 40s, but he’s looking for his first win in four years.

McIlroy, 23, is looking to win back-to-back playoff events and his third elite event in a month.

Moore, 29, the former amateur dynamo who won the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Amateur Public Links and the NCAA individual championship, is seeking his second PGA Tour title.

“I’ve got to keep it going,” Singh said. “I’ve been playing well for two days for a while now, but I need four days of good playing. Sooner or later, I think four days is going to happen. Hopefully, it starts this week.”
