JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – It was an interesting, although not entirely unproductive, front nine for Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship. At 7 over, Woods is three strokes outside the current cut line despite closing birdies at Nos. 8 and 9.
Woods’ opening nine could have been better if not for a three-putt from 20 feet at the seventh hole.
Woods has missed just two cuts at a major as a professional, the last coming at the 2009 Open Championship. Perhaps even more compelling, he is 129th on the FedEx Cup points list. Anything less than a tie for 30th at the Atlanta Athletic Club and he will fail to qualify for the postseason.
