Slow play problem

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Pebble Beach is no stranger to slow play, it often seems the old Crosby invented it, but when the pace goes cold at the national championship folks takes notice.

A good example of this came early Friday as the group of Kent Jones, Craig Barlow and Bobby Gates played the 17th hole.

The U.S. Golf Association rule is that a group is 'out of position' when the group in front of them have cleared the green.

The Jones group made it, watched carefully by a rules official, but only by about 30 seconds.

Even more concerning? Kevin Na was in the group ahead of Jones, one of the Tour's slowest players.
