Small search party turns up no ball for Johnson

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — It was one of the more humorous scenes you'll ever see on a golf course.

Zach Johnson pushed his tee shot way right on the par-3 eighth hole, near a tree and into some tall rough.

Or so we believe.

Surrounded by a small search party of playing partners Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, their caddies, marshals and even a few New York State troopers, Johnson attempted to locate the ball.

With no luck, the few thousand fans in attendance started screaming directions. One spectator, Steve Rollino, 22, of nearby Huntington, was so adamant about where the ball dropped that Woods waved him over to help.

And still, they couldn't find it.

'It's got to be sitting down somewhere,' said the part-time caddie at Huntington Country Club. 'It must be a terrible lie.'

Afterward, Rollino was disappointed that he couldn't help and apologized to Johnson.

'I normally never lose a ball,' he said, 'but what can you do?'

After searching for the requisite five minutes, Johnson went back to the tee, from where he carded a triple-bogey six.
