PARKER, Colo. – The 13th Solheim Cup matches continue Saturday at Colorado Golf Club where the Europeans hold a 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 lead. Here is a breakdown of the afternoon fourball (best ball) matches with analysis from Jay Coffin and Randall Mell, who are both on-site covering the event.
Match 13 - 2:55 p.m. ET: Jodi Ewart Shadoff-Charley Hull (Europe) vs. Paula Creamer-Lexi Thompson (U.S.)
COFFIN: Too much firepower in the American duo. Creamer looks like herself again and Thompson is bound to make up for yesterday’s lackluster performance. U.S. WINS
MELL: Creamer was in terrific form in the morning. Thompson’s ball-striking is dialed in, just needs to get the putter working to help against Solheim rookies Shadoff and Hull. U.S. WINS
Match 14 - 3:10 p.m. ET: Azahara Munoz-Carlota Ciganda (Europe) vs. Gerina Piller-Angela Stanford (U.S.)
COFFIN: No telling how this match will play out. In the end, though, the length of Piller could be the difference. Surprised Ciganda is playing again. U.S. WINS
MELL: It’s the Spaniards vs. the Texans. Munoz is playing very well, and she’ll settle down the wild-hitting Ciganda in fourballs. EUROPE WINS
Match 15 - 3:25 p.m. ET: Caroline Hedwall-Caroline Masson (Europe) vs. Michelle Wie-Jessica Korda (U.S.)
COFFIN: This looks like the only point Europe can win in this session, so it better get the job done. Hedwall is undefeated this week and she’s relentless. EUROPE WINS
MELL: Hedwall is 3-0 and playing at a high level. Masson is steady, but Wie and Korda are big hitters who will make a load of birdies. U.S. WINS
Match 16 - 3:40 p.m. ET: Beatriz Recari-Karine Icher (Europe) vs. Cristie Kerr-Morgan Pressel (U.S.)
COFFIN: Do not see a scenario where Kerr and Pressel (good friends for a long time) lose this match. They both feel they have too much to prove. U.S. WINS
MELL Kerr and Pressel should be a terrific team, with both in good form. They’re 2-0 together in fourballs. U.S. WINS
Note: Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lang, Brittany Lincicome and Lizette Salas are sitting for the U.S. Suzann Pettersen, Anna Nordqvist, Giulia Sergas and Catriona Matthew are sitting for Europe.
