Solheim rookie Piller knows sting of U.S. loss in Ireland

PARKER, Colo. – Gerina Piller may be playing in her first Solheim Cup this week, but she felt the sting of that American loss in Ireland two years ago.

Thanks to Angela Stanford, Piller was there, soaking it all in while watching as a spectator.

Stanford, seeing the potential in her friend, wanted Piller to experience what the Solheim Cup was all about. So Stanford flew her over to watch and learn.

“I was blessed enough for Angela to take me to Ireland,” Piller said. “She said, `Rookie, if you’re going to play in this one of these days, you better come see what it’s all about.’ Little did I know it was going to be the next Solheim Cup.

“It was an experience. I can’t thank Angela enough for giving me that opportunity. That just made me want it even more. Angela’s been an amazing role model, and I just learned so much from her.”

Piller is one of four American Solheim Cup rookies. She was also a captain's pick.
