Sore shoulder nearly forces Garcia out of Dubai

RSS

Coming off a runner-up finish last week in Qatar, Sergio Garcia appears in position to contend again this week after rounds of 68 and 67 at the Omega Dubai Desert ClassicAccording to comments from the Spaniard, though, a sore shoulder nearly forced him to withdraw during his round.

'On the 14th green I told my caddie if it does not get any better after 18, we will probably walk,' said Garcia, who began his round Friday on the 10th hole. After birdies on 16 and 17 were followed by an eagle on 18, his commitment to the round was renewed - apparently much to the Spaniard's chagrin.

'Unfortunately we started making birdies and eagle, and I thought 'What do we do now?''

'I got the physio out and he worked on it,' he added. 'It feels a little bit better, but it needs to get better.'

At 9 under through 36 holes, Garcia currently sits in a tie for eighth in Dubai, three shots off the pace set by Richard Sterne. It marks the sixth straight round of 70 or better for the 33-year-old to begin his 2013 European Tour season.
