ARDMORE, Pa. – A special guest arrived to much fanfare about 9:45 a.m. Sunday at the Walker Cup.
For the first time since the matches began Saturday morning, the sun poked through the clouds over Merion Golf Club.
The event, however, isn’t looking any brighter for Great Britain & Ireland. Midway through morning foursomes, the Americans lead two matches, GB&I leads one match and another is all square. The Americans took an 8-4 lead into the final day.
American Peter Uihlein is on his way to a 3-0 mark in his first Walker Cup appearance. He and Nathan Smith are 5 up through 10 holes in their match against Chris Paisley and Dale Whitnell. After winning both his matches in routs on Saturday, American Rickie Fowler is in a battle Sunday morning. He and Bud Cauley are all square through 12 holes in their match against Stiggy Hodgson and Niall Kearney.
