Speed over comfort at Torrey Pines

RSS

SAN DIEGO – Tiger Woods got his wish, with officials setting up Torrey Pines’ South Course more for speed than comfort, but not the desired results.

Following his second-round 69 Woods said of the possibilities on Saturday, “They have an opportunity to set this place up like a U.S. Open if they want to. It’s just as dry, just as fast, just as hard, and obviously the rough is up. Normally our Tour doesn’t quite put the pins that difficult like the (U.S. Golf Association) does, so we’ll see what happens.”

So far, however, Woods is mired at 1 over for the day and six strokes out of the lead. No one is more than 4 under on Saturday and only Phil Mickelson, who is 3 under through 12 holes, is making a move among the leaders.
