Stallings hoping breakthrough comes at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio – Scott Stallings missed a month earlier this season because of torn cartilage in his ribs and hasn’t made a cut in his last six tries.

That may not sound like a recipe for success, but entering this week’s Memorial Tournament he felt like he was on the verge of a strong result.

“I definitely felt like my game was right in form,” Stallings said. “My coach came into town for three days and we kind of got after it pretty good and had some long days on the range. He wasn't really concerned about my golf swing or anything like that, he was more or less just trying to make sure I was confident and when I stepped on the tee I was prepared to play.”

Apparently he was perfectly prepared, posting opening scores of 66-73 to not only make the cut, but get into contention going into the weekend at Muirfield Village.

“It's awesome,” he said after a second round that included four birdies and five bogeys. “Any opportunity to get out there and play and compete to win a golf tournament, especially a golf tournament with Jack Nicklaus's name on it, it's exciting, and definitely look forward to getting out there.”
