Stars aligning for BMW Masters in October

Three of the top four players in the world have committed to play in the European Tour’s inaugural BMW Masters on Oct. 25-28 in Shanghai.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will be joined by Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and fellow European Ryder Cuppers Graeme McDowell, Nicolas Colsaerts, Peter Hanson, Paul Lawrie, Francesco Molinari, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose at Lake Malaren Golf Club for the $7 million event – one of the richest on the Euro tour all season, behind only the majors, the World Golf Championships events and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Said Westwood in a statement, “I’m really excited to be going to China for the BMW Masters. I love playing in the Far East and my record out there reflects that (10 wins on the continent). We are always given a fantastic welcome in China and BMW events are never anything less than excellent, so it is set to be a great week.”

For McIlroy, the BMW Masters represents one of the final opportunities to solidify his position atop the Race to Dubai. He’s nearly $2 million ahead on the PGA Tour money list, and he could become the second player in two years (Luke Donald) to win the money title on both sides of the Atlantic.
