DORAL, Fla. – Some notable stats through the first two rounds of the WGC-Cadillac Championship:
• Despite some crazy bad shots Friday, Tiger Woods' ball striking isn't all bad statistically. He is T10 in greens in regulation, but he’s not exactly knocking down the flagstick. He’s 60th in proximity to the hole. That explains some of his putting woes – T64 in overall putting in field of 66 players – but not all of his putting woes. Woods is T53 in putting from 4 to 8 feet.
• Hunter Mahan, tutored by Sean Foley, who’s work with Tiger Woods is highly scrutinized, is a ball-striking dynamo this week. He is T5 in hitting in greens in regulation and first in proximity to the hole.
• Phil Mickelson’s having one of his better driving weeks. He’s first in driving distance (314.5 yards per drive) and T11 in total driving, but his iron play’s lacking. He’s 49th in hitting greens in regulation and T47 in proximity to the hole.
• Steve Stricker is first in total putting, first in putting inside 10 feet and second in putting average.
