Stenson's schedule 'crazy busy' after historic season

RSS

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The Iceman Henrik Stenson has been more like golf’s Iron Man the last few months.

After becoming the first player to win both the FedEx Cup and European Tour’s Race to Dubai in the same season, Stenson didn’t take much time to enjoy his spoils, getting back to work at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship to start the year followed by stops in Qatar and this week’s Dubai Desert Classic.

“It’s been crazy busy the last three months,” he said. “Not so much playing, but really commitments and media and photo shoots. The demands on my time are up like 500 percent. The hardest part is you are practicing and you never know when you are going to be finished and when you have commitments you may have to walk off in the middle of a session.”

Stenson, who shared the Champions Challenge title with Rafael Cabrera-Bello Tuesday by shooting 6-under 66, plans to take the next two weeks off after Dubai before his next start at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship followed by another hectic run. He plans to play the Honda Classic, WGC-Cadillac Championship, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Shell Houston Open before heading to the year’s first major at Augusta National.

He’s also come to embrace the attention that his historic 2013 campaign has created, even if that means he may struggle to balance the demands of success.

“I have the patience. It’s all positives on the back end of something good,” Stenson said. “I can’t demand to play my best now. If it takes a little while to get going again then so be it.”
