Storms expected Saturday when Garcia, Woods go off

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – After a few sun-splashed days, the weekend forecast at The Players is decidedly dicier.

Scoring conditions for the first two rounds were relatively benign, with little wind, warm sun and receptive greens.

But there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. ET – or, in other words, when the final groups play their third rounds. The wind will also be stronger than it has been all week, with a steady breeze expected between 8-15 mph.

Sunday’s forecast is almost identical – 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high temperature around 82 degrees – as a cold front moves into northern Florida.

The final group of Sergio Garcia (-11) and Tiger Woods (-10) is set to go off at 2:40 p.m. Saturday.
