AKRON, Ohio – Steve Stricker would like to remind us about an old adage: Beware the injured golfer.
After tearing his hamstring while water-skiing last week, Stricker opened 71-67 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
“When a guy is hurt, you focus sometimes on other things,” he said. “I’m kind of just walking around gingerly and trying to protect it. Sometimes that translates into slowing your swing down and doing some good things that way.”
Stricker maintained that the injury was feeling much better Friday than just two or three days earlier.
“It’s doing better, slowly. I saw a lot of progress earlier in the week and I’m seeing smaller amounts of progress now,” he said. “I’m making it around. Today I felt like my strides and steps were quicker and better. I’m starting to be able to bend down and read putts, which I couldn’t do Tuesday or Wednesday. It’s not 100 percent, but it’s manageable.”
