PITTSFORD, N.Y. – He may be a part-time player, but Steve Stricker still has priorities.
Stricker told GolfChannel.com on Saturday at Oak Hill that he plans to play the Deutsche Bank Championship and BMW Championship next month in an attempt to solidify his spot on the Presidents Cup team and stay sharp for the matches.
“I think I’ve made up my mind and I’m going to play the middle two playoff events,” Stricker said. “My legs are struggling a little bit still so I feel like I need a week to not do anything golf-wise and start practicing the middle of Barclays week (the first playoff event).”
Stricker did not initially plan to play the FedEx Cup playoffs but he is currently ninth on the U.S. Presidents Cup points list, although he could lock up a spot on Sunday at Oak Hill where he is currently tied for fifth place.
Despite his decision to add to his 2013 lineup, Stricker said he plans to play a similar schedule next season.
“I’ve enjoyed what I’ve done this year,” said Stricker, who is playing his 10th event of the season this week. “It wasn’t tough to come out here before, but it makes it more enjoyable now. I am excited to come out and play and I still put in the time at home to practice. It’s been good for my family and I’ve been hanging out with them a lot more.”
Stricker won the Deutsche Bank in 2009 and has three top-10 finishes at the BMW.
