Stricker could win FedEx Cup without 2013 win

ATLANTA – Of the many FedEx Cup scenarios available this week, there remains one doomsday scenario for the PGA Tour.

There is a chance that Steve Stricker could finish runner-up at this week’s Tour Championship and win the FedEx Cup without winning a single title this season.

Call that scenario improbable, but it is not impossible.

For that to happen, Stricker would need to finish in sole possession of second place with each of the following players in these final positions on the leaderboard: Tiger Woods 10th or worse; Henrik Stenson fifth or worse; Adam Scott fourth or worse; and Zach Johnson third or worse.

In a dozen previous starts as a semi-retired player this year, Stricker owns three runner-up finishes already, including at the Deutsche Bank Championship three weeks ago.
