Stricker to take six weeks off after runner-up finish

RSS

KAPALUA, Hawaii – Steve Stricker finished in sole possession of second place at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions – which isn’t bad for a semi-retired guy.

After announcing that he would play “about 10” events this season, Stricker posted rounds of 71-67-69 to finish four strokes behind winner Dustin Johnson. He will now spend a few more days in paradise with the family before returning to his home in Wisconsin for six weeks off.

“Even though I got off to this good start like this, I'm looking forward to the time home,” he said. “I need the time home the way I feel right now. I feel a little beat up, and so I need that time I think to get back and ready.”

Stricker played this week with an undetermined injury in his right leg – one which he vows to get checked out soon, though. Next up on his limited schedule is the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

“Looking forward to getting rid of this little nag thing I've got going down my leg,” he added, “and looking forward to playing again at the Match Play.”
