Strickers wife to miss Ryder Cup

RSS

ATLANTA – The U.S. Ryder Cup charter scheduled to leave Atlanta for Wales at 10 p.m. (ET) on Sunday will be short one member of Team America. Steve Stricker’s wife, a constant at the four cups her husband has played, will not be on the flight or at the matches.

“It just didn’t work out with the kids and her grandmother just broke her hip so her mother is watching our kids,” he said following his final round at East Lake. “We tried but it just didn’t work out.”

Nicki Stricker called her husband Saturday night with the news in tears, “She’s really bummed,” he said.

There is some good news, however. Nicki Stricker’s business-class seat on the charter will now go to Phil Mickelson’s caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay, who had given up his seat to Rickie Fowler, a rookie at next week’s matches.

“I told Bones this morning that I got him back in the front of the plane,” Stricker smiled.
