SAN FRANCISCO – Phil Mickelson’s week was complete before he even teed it up in Sunday singles.
Mickelson said after defeating Retief Goosen 2 and 1 that his wife, Amy, greeted him at the team hotel after he returned from Saturday’s play. She hasn’t been out on tour since it was announced earlier this year that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“It was an incredible surprise,” Mickelson said. “We had talked about possibly doing it, but she surprised me. I didn’t think she was coming, and she actually hid in the bathroom when I walked in my room. I didn’t know she was there, and she scared me pretty good. It was an awesome surprise.”
