ORLANDO, Fla. – In the chain reaction of events leading into Wednesday’s trade of Tim Tebow (pictured) to the New York Jets – from his selection as a first-round draft pick to his ascendancy as a playoff game-winning quarterback to the Denver Broncos signing of Peyton Manning – there were plenty of unforeseen twists and turns.
One of the potentially most unfortunate nearly took place as the trade was going down: It almost hindered an important tee time.
Robby Tebow, Tim’s brother and day-to-day manager, was in the 12:40 p.m. pro-am group at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and reported that he was working the phones regarding the trade right up until his opening tee shot.
“I got the news right when we teed off on the first hole,” Robby said. “We knew it was coming down right about the same time.”
As for whether his brother is pleased with the trade, he said, “He’s going to really, really love playing for Rex Ryan, so that’s going to be fun.”
