Texas Open win has Curtis focused on Zurich, PGA Tour

RSS

AVONDALE, La. – Ben Curtis notched his first PGA Tour win in six years last week at the Valero Texas Open. He figured he may as well pick up another, as he played his way into contention at the Zurich Classic on Thursday with a first round of 5-under 67.

'What the heck, go out there and just be aggressive and try to shoot some good scores,' Curtis said.

Arriving in town on late Tuesday night, the '03 British Open winner didn't even get in a practice round.

'Just felt like I was comfortable where my game was, obviously, but just felt like I could just go out there and see what happens this week and just play stress-free,' he said.

Armed with the two-year exemption that comes with winning a PGA Tour event, Curtis confirmed he intends to play a domestic schedule in lieu of the European Tour membership and schedule he intended to pursue at the onset of the season.

He said, 'I'm going to play the next two after this week (Quail Hollow and The Players Championship), then after that week we'll see, but I'm going to concentrate over here.'
