The Players No lead is safe

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – It’s challenging enough facing those three finishing holes in the final round at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course during The Players Championship, but this year’s leaders get a double dose of Sunday trouble.

With Saturday’s rain suspension, the leaders will have to play those finishing holes twice on Sunday. The first go-round in the morning was filled with crashes and splashes.

'There's a lot of water involved,' Steve Stricker said. 'Nerves are probably getting everybody.'

Graeme McDowell and Jason Dufner both double bogeyed the 18th Sunday morning. Luke Donald rinsed his tee shot at the 17th Sunday morning and finished the third round bogey-bogey. Stricker hit his approach in the water at the 18th in a bogey-bogey finish. David Toms bogeyed the 17th. Nick Watney rinsed his second shot at the 16th and made bogey.

“There’s no lead that’s too safe,” NBC Sports’ Johnny Miller said before the tournament began. “You can have a four-shot lead and just fall apart.”
