LAKE WORTH, Fla. – This is a note anyone who’s ever played in a pro-am will appreciate.
Gabby Cuevas, 86, played through rain, wind and a tornado watch in Monday’s Bethesda Hospital Foundation Pro-Am at The Falls Country Club. Nothing seems able to slow the man down. It was the 42nd annual event, and he’s played in all 42 of them. He’s still practicing as a pathologist at the hospital.
There’s more, though. With Beth Daniel as his pro partner, Cuevas won the event for the fourth time, his team finishing at 9-under with the tournament finally halted by weather after nine holes.
The Bethesda Hospital Foundation Pro-Am raised more than $200,000 for the hospital this year, according to Bethesda spokeswoman Kristin Calder. She reports the event’s raised nearly $4 million net for the hospital over 42 years.
