Thompson gearing up for summers three majors

Alexis Thompson didn’t get to play in the year’s first major championship, the Kraft Nabisco, but she’ll have a chance to play the remaining three this summer.

The 16-year-old from Coral Springs, Fla., has been granted an exemption into the final stage of qualifying for the Ricoh Women’s British Open, according to her agent, Bobby Kreusler. The pre-qualifier conflicts with the U.S. Women’s Open, the same conflict that prevented Thompson from trying to play in last year’s Women’s British Open.

With the exemption, Thompson advances straight into the final qualifier for the Women’s British Open at Panmure Golf Club on July 25, the Monday after she plays at the Evian Masters.

The Women’s British Open will be played at Carnoustie in Scotland July 28-31.

Thompson also has received a sponsor’s exemption to the Wegmans LPGA Championship June 23-26. A new exemption for professionals was added to the championship this year. Thompson is qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open July 7-10 by virtue of her top-10 finish at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open.
