Threatening weather halts play in Solheim Cup


PARKER, Colo. – The Solheim Cup was suspended at 5:20 p.m. local time Sunday with “dangerous weather” reported in the vicinity of Colorado Golf Club.

The Europeans were moving close to retaining the cup when play was halted. They led 13-7, needing just one more point to retain, when lightning in the area was detected by tournament radar. Eight of the 12 matches were still on the course, the Europeans leading in three, when the weather horn blew.

The Euros began the day with a 10 ½ to 5 ½ lead, needing just 3 ½ points to retain the cup. They got their first point from Charley Hull, who defeated Paula Creamer, 5 and 4. Anna Nordqvist followed, delivering a half-point by playing Stacy Lewis to all square. Carlota Ciganda delivered the next full point, defeating Morgan Pressel, 4 and 2.
