Tiger Still Plugging Hank Haney

Rumors of Hank Haney’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. At least that was Tiger Woods’ figurative take of all the “Axe Hank” talk on the Inter-web since the Masters. On Thursday, the world No. 1 added a literal endorsement of his swing coach with a final-nine 30 at Quail Hollow Club and a Day 1 65.
Haney, who spent last weekend in central Florida working with Woods, would be particularly pleased with how the First Pupil picked his way around the layout, hitting 77 percent of his greens in regulation and needing just 1.57 putts per green in regulation.
Woods’ 65, good for an early three-stroke lead, is his lowest opening round on Tour since the 2007 Tour Championship, and – hopefully – a reason for the Web world to give Haney a break.
