ARDMORE, Pa. – Seven of the top 15 players in the world rankings are within four shots of the lead heading into the third round of the 113th U.S. Open.
Get ready for a wild weekend at Merion.
Only two players (Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel) are under par after 36 holes, and there are 19 players within four shots of the lead, including the top two in the world rankings, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, who will play together again on Saturday afternoon.
Because the second round was completed Saturday morning and 73 players made the cut, players will go off in threesomes off split tees (Nos. 1 and 11) in the third round.
The first group will tee off at 12:28 p.m. ET Saturday, and the final threesome of Mickelson, Horschel and Luke Donald (even par, one shot back) will go off at 2:40 p.m. ET.
Here are a few other notable groups for Round 3:
• 1:56 p.m.: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano
