Tiger Woods officially committed to next month’s Players Championship Wednesday morning, extending the practice of giving tournaments extra time to prepare for his arrival that he began earlier this year when he announced he would end his five-month self-imposed hiatus at the Masters.
Last week Woods committed to the Quail Hollow Championship, more than a week before the Friday 5 p.m. (ET) deadline, and he has also submitted his application to play June’s U.S. Open.
Woods has played the Players 12 times in his career, but has won the event just once (2001) and his best finish since that breakthrough was his eight-place showing last year. TPC Sawgrass was, however, where he won the first of three U.S. Amateur crowns in 1994.
