Tiger: What it would mean to play for gold medal

AKRON, Ohio – Whenever Tiger Woods is asked about competing for the United States in the 2016 Olympic Games, he always proffers the same answer.

“I've got to qualify first,” he says.

On Wednesday, in a pre-tournament news conference prior to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, he elaborated on what it would mean for him to play for the gold medal.

“If I get in, it would be great,” he continued. “I don't know how it's going to be scheduling wise. We have seven big events right now in this stretch, and we're adding an eighth. It's going to be a very, very busy summer for us as golfers. But it's also the Olympics, and it is a very big event and something that we haven't historically been involved in. It's always a first to be involved in something to that magnitude, and if I make it, that would be great.”
