Thirteen-year-old Max Ting will become the fourth youngest player to compete in a European Tour event when he tees it up at next week’s Hong Kong Open.
On Monday, Ting earned one of three spots in the tournament after shooting 6-over 146 in qualifying. At 13 years and 288 days, he will be more than a year older than China’s Ye Wocheng, who was 12 years and 242 days when he played in this year’s China Open.
Guan Tianlang was 13 years and 177 days when he played in the China Open in 2012.
“That’s amazing, I didn’t know that,” Ting said, via the South China Morning Post. “It’s great and I’m really looking forward to playing in the Open. I tried to stay calm and play my own game. I felt very good.”
Ting said his goal is to make the cut.
