WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – Tom Watson may be 63 years old and the current United States Ryder Cup captain, but he’s proving this week that he’s still got some game, too.
The pro emeritus here at The Greenbrier posted scores of 68-69 to make the cut at The Greenbrier Classic. Perhaps more surprisingly, he didn’t even seem overly pleased with his play – at least on the greens.
“My putter was very balky today,” he explained after a four-birdie, three-bogey performance. “I did make one good one on the last hole. I changed my stroke and that gives me some confidence about maybe what I did with that stroke is maybe what I need to do, because I was struggling on the greens today.
“I hit the ball very, very well and like yesterday, I missed a lot of putts, I three-putted three times today and it was kind of an ugly day on the greens, but a real good day for the ball-striking category.”
