Tom Watson takes only 22 putts in closing 67

RSS

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – When Tom Watson walked off the course following a third-round 72 at The Greenbrier Classic on Saturday, the 63-year-old lamented his putting, long a struggle in his game.

“I’m just not getting the ball on the line or the speed that I want it to be,” he said.

That all changed one day later, as Watson needed just 22 putts in a final-round 67 – his third sub-par score of the week.

The pro emeritus here at The Greenbrier one-putted 11 of the first 12 greens and had 14 one-putts overall.

He carded six birdies and three bogeys.

While the tournament has still yet to finish, it appears impossible that Watson would move into the top 10. He was attempting to become the oldest player to claim a top-10 finish in PGA Tour history.
