PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – David Toms is finding inspiration with his 13-year-old son falling in love with the game.
Toms, in the early hunt at The Players Championship, said he’s playing more golf for fun at his Shreveport, La., home now than he ever has because he’s playing with his son, Carter.
“Just kind of enjoying the game, enjoying watching him get into the game,” Toms, 44, said.
Toms said Carter follows his game closely, monitoring scores and stats.
“I haven’t won a tournament where he’s been around and really into golf,” Toms said. “I’d like to play great just for him to see that. That would be pretty neat.”
Toms won the last of his 12 PGA Tour victories at the Sony Open five years ago. The PGA Championship returns to Atlanta Athletic Club this year. Toms won the major there in 2000.
