OAKMONT, Pa. – Is the first hole at Oakmont the toughest opening hole in major championship golf?
Wendy Ward would probably give it her vote and then maybe vote to blow it up.
Ward, who started three shots behind the leader, Paula Creamer, triple bogeyed it in Sunday's final round of the U.S. Women's Open. After driving into one of those wicked fairway bunkers, she took two shots to get out. She added a three putt from 50 feet for her 7. Creamer got up and down from behind the green for par, making a nervy 5-footer. Alexis Thompson opened with a double bogey.
