Tough turn for Tiley

RSS

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – On Thursday following a near-flawless 66 on the Old Course Steven Tiley was asked if he sensed he was on the cusp of something special, “I'd be a very rich man if I could sense the future,” he said.

Had he been clairvoyant he may have considered it in after 27 holes at the Open Championship. The Englishman was 6 under par for the week midway through his wind-whipped second round when things went sideways starting with a double bogey-5 at the exposed 11th hole.

Tiley had to return to the Old Course early Saturday to complete his round and played his next six holes in 5 over for a closing 43 that dropped him out of the top 10 and into a tie for 43rd place.

“If it's predetermined, if you're meant to play well here, you play well. Just keep doing the same thing,” Tiley said on Thursday. If only he knew what fate had in store for him.
