Tour announces nominees for Player, Rookie of Year

It doesn’t figure to be a close race in either category, but the PGA Tour nonetheless released the nominees for its Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards on Monday.

The winners, announced Friday, are determined after a vote by PGA Tour members who competed in at least 12 official events this season. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Player of the Year:

Tiger Woods: Five-time winner finished second in the FedEx Cup, recorded eight top 10s, won the Arnold Palmer Award as the Tour’s leading money winner and Vardon Trophy for lowest scoring average

Adam Scott: Two-time winner, including the Masters, finished fourth in the FedEx Cup, recorded six top 10s and finished No. 6 on the money list

Phil Mickelson: Two-time winner, including the British Open, finished ninth in the FedEx Cup, recorded seven top 10s and finished No. 4 on the money list

Henrik Stenson: FedEx Cup champion won two of the last three events of the season, recorded eight top 10s and finished No. 2 on the money list

Matt Kuchar: Two-time winner, including the WGC-Match Play, finished sixth in the FedEx Cup, recorded eight top 10s and finished No. 3 on the money list



Rookie of the Year:

Jordan Spieth: Began year with no status but recorded nine top 10s in 23 starts, won the John Deere Classic, posted three other runners-up, qualified for the Tour Championship, tied for second at East Lake, finished No. 10 on the money list and was chosen as a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup

Russell Henley: Won the Sony Open in his first start as a PGA Tour member, finished No. 44 in the FedEx Cup and No. 33 on the money list

Derek Ernst: Winner at the Wells Fargo Championship finished No. 93 in the FedEx Cup and No. 66 on the money list

David Lingmerth: Two runners-up, including a T-2 at The Players, finished No. 75 in the FedEx Cup and No. 46 on the money list
